Daily Life

Hello everyone out there in the internet universe.
So the past two days have been fabulous. La seƱora told me that she thinks I need to talk to more natives. But she just doesn't understand that I have no idea how! No no she said, just go up and talk to them. So that is what I did. So I learned a lot from her that day.
1) Everyone my age hangs out at the Plaza around 1-3. And when she said everyone she really meant everyone.
2) Sangria is not in season right now, apparently its too cold.
3) No one sits down when they drink outside... I dont know
So I tried this out, I went on my own and just started talking to people! They really are super friendly. I met a futbol player, some guy who thought he knew english and some boys who taught me how to cat call at ladies. It was an interesting experience to be one of the spanish boys.
The next day Chenoa and I went on a shopping excursion that wasnt very successful.. but I finally found myself some boots. You dont understand how hard it was. Then we returned for lunch where I got to successfully make my own lunch. We went out again to people watch and saw illegal immigrants run from the cops, Chenoa and I wanted to make a distraction so they could get away but it all happened sooo fast! Then we set a mission to find "agua de sevilla" which we thought would be a popular drink.. and it turns out it really wasnt. Its supposed to knock you off your feet and we searched everywhere! We walked down one street where a huge group of Italians clapped and cheered for us saying "guapa!!" Finally we decided to look it up online, where we also invited Heather and Matt to join us. Apparently the resturant down the street had it, and it was quite delicious I want to recreate it when I come back to the states. Heres what was in it:

  • 1 liter pineapple juice or syrup
  • 1 bottle of cava, a pink, sparkling, fizzy wine located in Spain
  • 1 cup whiskey
  • 1 cup cointreau (triplesec)
  • ice
  • Whipped cream
Vale, we then went out for tapas.. which werent the best and a little to expensive but you couldnt beat the lovely view of the Cathedral. Ahhhh I just love Sevilla. Mon amor.

This time for Africa

So when you think of Africa what comes to mind?
For me, I thought Lion King, sand, animals, bartering.. something amazing! I mean I get to tell people I went to Africa! When we play never have I ever and someone says, "I have never been to Africa" I can be the only one to put my finger down! But this was not a very memorable trip..
Day one, for some odd reason Mundolengua decided we should leave at 1430 to start our journey. The bus didnt even get there until 1500ish and then we proceeded to ride the bus for about 2 and a half hours to get to the boat. We finally got to the boat and waited again for an hour, and rode this boat for only 30 minutes. Heather felt a little seasick, it was her first time pobresita. Then once we finally touched Africa we were still in Spain territory and drove to customs. (They gave me a horrible stamp on my passport!) Anywho it took about 15 more minutes to get to our hotel. We were all starving so we ate a nice dinner and then retired to our rooms. So pretty much all we did this day was travel at least I got to watch Dawn of the Dead while I stayed awake afraid of ants in my bed.
Day two, We get up early, thank god they believe in coffee. I transfered some euros to dirhams which they are super duper inflated. Then we rode the bus again for an hour or two to get to Chefchaouen, the blue city. We had the funniest tour guide (one thing I recall from the trip.) Now when I say this city is blue, its blue. All of its blue, its cute at first but then it just gets really old.. its all blue. We got an hour of free time (our only free time this whole time) ate lunch then got back on the bus. We drove again for 2 hours to get to Tanger where I cant even recall something from this place because we just looked out the window the whole time. OH wait I got to ride a camel for 2 euros for 1 minute. This was the best part of the trip. We then got to our hotel and proceeded to walk through the expensive market where everyone is trying to force their items on you.
Come on its cheap, buy it, you know you want it, you sure you dont want it?
Even in the shops we were followed the entire time! You like this? Its very nice you want something else look over here. So obnoxious.
Day three, We didnt get a wake up call so we all rushed to get ready and still have time to eat breakfast. Where we drove for an hour and a half to Tetouan. We had a boring sexist tour guide who led us through a town where we looked at nothing. Literally nothing. Oh I remember a market that had poor chickens huddled up in a corner pen next to their dead brothers and sisters. I almost cried and had to keep thinking "its a different culture." Then I proceeded to argue with the other vegetarian that chickens and pigs have the same meaning to me and they dont to her.. and she calls herself a vegetarian. The best part was when we went to a natural medicine shop where I bought some of their good tea and some miracle stuff for hair. Then we went to a carpet store where I bartered for a pretty carpet (: Grandpa would be proud! Then we had lunch.. cous cous that tasted just how I remembered it.. horrible! We got on the bus, got to the boat, got on the boat, got to Spain on the bus and then home.
Never had I been so happy to get back from a trip. This is what I hate about traveling.. just traveling and seeing what someone else tells me to see. What if I dont want to see a dirty neighborhood? What if I dont want to stick with the group and buy what they want to buy? Next time I go to Africa Im going to Kenya, where the Zebras, Giraffes, Sir Fidels, and all wildlife run free. Where I see a culture living and not constantly asking me for money. Where I actually feel like I would want to help them and learn their culture. So there is my rant about this trip.. Here are some pictures!

Besos

LO SIENTO TODOS!!!

Disculpa, lo siento. Ah I have been missing writing to you for way too long. Basically I have been just practicing living life as a spaniard. How to make coffee, eat olive oil with everything, wear a coat even though its blazing hot outside. But even though there are a lot of differences, we are all just people. Last week Heather, Chenoa and I sat at the steps of the Cathedral and played "is that person american or native?" the biggest thing that gave it away (besides funky cool style) was that us Americans rush everywhere. We play with our phones, rush by and dont take time to look around or just sit and enjoy the beautiful day. But this trip has really made me more calm about everything.. no need to rush no need to worry about petty things, ya se cabo!
Anywho what have I been up to besides stalking hmmm... GRANADA Y AFRICA!!! Starting with Granada, I love it. If I couldve studied there I wouldve. (sorry Sevilla) So first we decided to find La Alhambra, which is a fortress built back in the day that is muy grande. It was a little complicated but thanks to google maps we made it there. But my legs still cry from all the mountains we climbed.. then had to go down because we forgot to buy tickets and then re-climb. They only let a certain number of people into the palaces for an hour so while we waited we drank the best coffee from a vending machine. Forget expensive starbucks this was 1,20! Anywho we went into the palaces and had to wear our backpacks in front like nerds. Chenoa wanted a picture of herself walking through a door and it was the most complicated thing ever. My favorite exhibit was the lion fountain (SIR FIDEL) but we couldnt take pictures I was sad ): my second favorite was the HUGE quatrafoil fountain which I jumped over bushes to pose next to! I am a bad influence though a little girl did the same thing after I did... After that we just walked around and climbed to pretty much the tippy top of Granada. But I got scared cause it was starting to get like "The Hills Have Eyes." We bought icecream (of course) and then proceeded to window shop! Here are some gorgeous photos!

To be continued..... AFRICAAA
Besos para todos!!
